Whenever your browser opens a page, the web server receives your IP address, the time of the request and the address requested. Depending on the browser, the request may also include device or browser details and the address of the previous page. Our hosting provider helps deliver the website. Technical logs support operation, troubleshooting and protection against attacks. We process this data under Article 6(1)(f) GDPR on the basis of our legitimate interest in running a stable, secure site. Retention depends on how long the logs are needed for operation or to investigate security incidents.
The contact form plugin starts a PHP session when you load a page. The PHPSESSID cookie holds the session identifier. The form uses the session, among other things, to check the security code entered in the form against the one displayed. The cookie has no fixed expiry date and is designed to last for the browser session.
WordPress may store the result of an emoji display check under wpEmojiSettingsSupports in your browser’s session storage. This lets the browser reuse the result on subsequent pages within the same session. You can delete cookies and site data in your browser settings.
The contact form asks for your name, email address, subject and message. Your telephone number is optional. The security check helps prevent automated spam. The form cannot be sent without the fields marked as required. If you contact us by email or telephone, we process the details and information you provide through that channel. We use the information to deal with and respond to your enquiry. Our hosting and email providers may receive the data as part of providing these services.
Article 6(1)(b) GDPR applies to contract-related enquiries and pre-contract steps you request. For other enquiries and spam prevention we rely on Article 6(1)(f) GDPR and our legitimate interest in offering a secure way to contact us. Where the law requires us to retain data, Article 6(1)(c) GDPR applies. Otherwise, retention depends on whether the matter is closed and whether the details are still needed to clarify, establish or defend claims.
To support page functions and display images, we load jQuery from Google Hosted Libraries and Ekko Lightbox from Cloudflare’s cdnjs. Your browser sends its IP address and technical request details to the provider so that it can deliver the file. Our legal basis is our legitimate interest in a functional website under Article 6(1)(f) GDPR. Google and Cloudflare operate international networks, so processing may take place outside the EEA. See the notices for Google Hosted Libraries, Google’s data transfer frameworks and the Cloudflare privacy policy for information on retention and transfers. You can also ask us about applicable safeguards.
Our product catalogue links to other websites. Once you follow a link, the operator of that website processes information about your visit. The barista.tools privacy policy separately covers the online shop, including orders and customer accounts.
You can ask for access to and a copy of your personal data. Where the statutory conditions apply, you can request correction, deletion, restriction of processing or a portable copy of data you provided. You may object to processing based on legitimate interests on grounds relating to your situation. You may object to direct marketing at any time. You can withdraw consent at any time for the future.
Use the email address above to exercise your rights. You can also complain to a competent supervisory authority, including the Austrian Data Protection Authority, Barichgasse 40–42, 1030 Vienna.
